Christopher Wells serves as Director of Nuclear Programs at the Southern States Energy Board, where he leads the Board’s longstanding interstate initiatives focused on nuclear transportation, radiological emergency preparedness, and state-federal coordination on nuclear materials policy and safety. With more than three decades of service to SSEB, Wells brings extensive program knowledge, steady leadership, and deep experience managing complex multi-state initiatives that support public safety, regulatory coordination, and regional preparedness.

Throughout his tenure, Wells has guided SSEB’s nuclear transportation and emergency response programs, providing member states with a forum for coordinated planning, technical engagement, and informed decision-making related to the movement of high-level radioactive waste, low-level radioactive materials, and transuranic waste from federal facilities across the nation. His work supports state participation in emergency response planning, preparedness exercises, training initiatives, and collaborative policy development designed to strengthen regional readiness and public confidence in the safe transportation and management of nuclear materials.

Recognized for practical, solutions-oriented leadership, Wells brings together state officials, federal agencies, technical experts, and emergency response leaders to address complex policy and operational challenges while ensuring member states maintain a strong voice in federal decision-making.

He holds a Master of Public Administration from Georgia Southern University and has dedicated his career to strengthening interstate cooperation, public service, and strategic program leadership in support of the South’s energy and environmental priorities.
