Given the Southern States Energy Board’s membership and staff experience in leading the development of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects across the Southeast and beyond, the Board partners with the University of Houston’s Center for Carbon Management in Energy (UHCCME) to create and co-direct the CCUS Acceleration Consortium. The Consortium includes the Nation’s most prominent energy industry leaders (76 Member Companies) and fosters their collaboration, addressing improved policies, financial incentives, regulations, broad-based innovation and technology deployment, and increased understanding and confidence in CCUS, all of which are necessary to accelerate at-scale CCUS commercialization.

The broad mission of the Consortium is to identify risks and uncertainties across the CCUS value chain and catalyze industry investment outside of the purview of existing technical research programs. The Consortium utilizes its membership expertise to apply its vast international reach and network to communicate industry activities and support ongoing research and commercialization efforts. To this end, a key focus is on ‘Transformative’ issues, or those that impact the entire CCUS value chain and without which commercialization of CCUS is improbable.

Consortium Partners

The Consortium is cooperatively funded through a grant with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management and contributions by project partners and Consortium members.
