 The SSEB Transuranic (TRU) Waste Transportation Working Group began meeting in 1989 to address states’ planning for TRU waste shipments. Under a cooperative agreement sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Area Office, this group provides DOE with a regional perspective on issues associated with the shipment of transuranic waste. Four Department of Energy sites in the eastern United States house transuranic waste that will eventually be shipped to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico.
